150 participants kayaked, biked, and ran their way to raising $100,000 at this year’s Annual Innovative Fitness Adventure Challenge on Sunday, September 11th, 2016 at Rocky Point in Port Moody, BC.
Adding to the rugged workout of the course was a word scramble that teams had to complete before crossing the finish line. The answer, “Healthy Communities”, was a reminder of the goal of the event, which is to build and support an active and healthy community.
This year’s fundraising will be split between Canada Sport for Life, which promotes physical literacy and encourages kids to move more, and I AM SOMEONE Ending Bullying Society, which aims to help end the hurt from bullying through initiatives like its TEXT 211 2Talk program.
A big thank you to the many sponsors and the 75 volunteers who came out to support the event. Without you, the adventure challenge wouldn’t be possible.
New this year was a revamped finish line (the Finisher’s Festival) where all participants were treated to a craft beer, a burger, and music from local party band, Mai Tai Fridays, as they relax post-race in the afternoon sun.
To cap the day’s festivities, Jeff Sharpe from Innovative Fitness thanked everyone involved, and local Radio Announcer, Rod MacBeth of CKPM-FM, presented the prizes to the top fundraisers and fastest participants.
